ALL ABOUT HOMESCHOOLING

"Children require guidance and sympathy far more than instruction."

Homeschooling is one of the most wonderful journeys you can take with your child.  Above all though it's one of the scariest.  I've been homeschooling more than fifteen years.  My oldest has graduated college and is working.  My second is currently in college seminary.  I surivived homeschooling high school.  I managed through the college admissions process.  I watched anxiously as my kids who had never been in regular school went through their first college lectures..... exams....  living on their own.  Etc.  I feel your fear.

However, even though I know that they "turned out ok" I still worry with my youngest two kids.  So know that we are all in this together.  Like everything else in parenting take a deep breath and grab a cup of coffee.  I've been trying to organize almost two decades of homeschooling information here.  This is what worked for me and I hope it helps you on your journey.

  • Is your homeschooled child entering high school and you are feel like you need some guidance?

If you need assistance at any point of your homeschooling journey I am excited to offer homeschool consulting for all ages.  In addition to more than fifteen years of homeschool experience teaching four children in all grades from Pre-K through highschool, I also hold a Masters in Teaching from The American University in Washington, DC.  I have experience teaching in a wide variety of environments from public school classrooms to small groups, large cooperatives and private tutoring.

My homeschool consulting service basic plan includes a phone consultation with you (and your child if you would like them involved) where we will discuss and assess your child's needs.  I will also determine your desired level of day to day involvement.  After doing a bit of research I will follow up with some ideas for curriculum choices, online classes and/or private tutors* which we can discuss and refine until we have a comprehensive homeschool plan that works best for you.  At that point I will put the curriculum into a flexible routine reflecting any extra curricular obligations.  I will also follow up with you twice during the academic year to see how things are going and make any necessary adjustments.

For more information or to book a time for your consultation please send me a brief description of your needs including the names and grade levels of your children using the form below or by email:  mary@christopher.travel

*I do not personally teach any online classes or offer private tutoring myself, but I do make suggestions for you to use based on my own experiences and research. Think of me as a homeschool guidance counselor!
