In creating this website and all my travelschooling units one of the more time consuming tasks is setting up affiliations with vendors I like and trust.  As a small business owner myself I really appreciate the “little guy” and want to avoid the major online sellers for my homeschool book purchases.  I am a big fan of Christian Book because they have great prices and shipping is super fast, but they are best for more textbooks and supplemental materials.  When it comes to my regular chapter book recommendations I use this wonderful organization called  Bookshop. They support local and independent booksellers trying to compete with the mega online stores and they have a great interface that allows me to set up my own little Pencil Treks Bookshop to list all my homeschool books suggestions.

From their website:

“Bookshop is an online bookstore with a mission to financially support local, independent bookstores.

We believe that bookstores are essential to a healthy culture. They’re where authors can connect with readers, where we discover new writers, where children get hooked on the thrill of reading that can last a lifetime. They’re also anchors for our downtowns and communities.

As more and more people buy their books online, we wanted to create an easy, convenient way for you to get your books and support bookstores at the same time.”

For every purchase you make through my Bookshop links I am not only paid a commission, but 10% of the sale goes to a fund that directly supports independent bookshops—even those who aren’t members!

In addition to these two vendors for homeschool books please visit my RESOURCES page to see some of my other favorite places to purchase homeschool materials. As always if you even have difficulty with any of the vendors on my website please let me know.

In other news my baby just recently turned thirteen.   Thirteen is one of the milestone birthdays and it’s given me time to reflect so stay tuned for my next post looking back on homeschooling the early years…..
